Team Objective
Seminars Team, as a subteam of Community Outreach, is responsible primarily to the on-site community and being a bridge between staff and non-staff. To this end, members of Seminars Team will work to increase the engagement of current members of the on-site community as well as support members of the off-site community in making the transition to being on-site members.
Team Composition
Seminars Team is currently composed of three staff roles (Planners, Speakers, and Seekers) and one non-staff role (Host).
Planners are members who specialize in organizing complex seminars (such as live seminars or time-limited seminars) and assist in script writing or other duties behind the scenes. Their purpose is to support other team members in making high-quality seminar programming without being expected to do public speaking.
Speakers are members who specialize in hosting staff-run seminars through public speaking on livestreams, videos, and/or audio recordings.
Seekers are members who specialize in finding non-staff Hosts for future seminars and search for ideas of future seminars from the on-site community.
Hosts are non-staff members of the on-site community that have volunteered to lead their own seminar or act as a guest on a staff-run seminar. Hosts are invited into planning conversations once they have been agreed upon by the staff members of Seminars Team.
Seminar Designs
Type 1 Seminars are simple recordings like a reading of an already-posted guide/essay or, if someone is keen, a new guide through writing in a certain style or about certain content that is not already posted to the site. Type 1 seminars are about supporting new authors through learning how to write and the intent is that they should be something a new author might listen to in the background while writing their own article. They will be released during the Seminar Season in a logical flow (such as an introduction to conprocs first, then a guide on writing dialogue, etc).
Type 2 Seminars are things about being a regular on the site and engaging many of the already-present authors in something new. These seminars would take the form of doing like an overview of a GoI that then invites authors to do a challenge based on the information in the seminar or seminars where we might invite authors to guest appear on to talk about writing skills specific to their style that new authors may want to learn about.
Type 3 Seminars are the miscellaneous category of things that people either want to do as their own pet project on the team or sudden things like talking to contest winners or other big moments worth exploring as an educational moment.
Team Schedule
Seminar Seasons will begin at the start of each Xkon contest as a way to support new contributors to the SCP Wiki hoping to participate in the competition and will run until the end of 5 months past the end of the respective Xkon. All seminars to be posted during the Xkon will be planned and prepared ahead of time but seminars posted in the following five months may be done synchronously if the Speaker/Host requests it. Seminars will be released on a weekly basis during the Xkon and on a monthly basis afterwards.

Buddy System
Every member of the team is assigned to work on two-three seminars (depending on the plan for that season) where they are in a lead role on one and a support role on the others as to not have a high workload. It is recommended that you stay in contact with your buddies, but there will be twice a month where you will be expected to discuss with your buddies your own progress on your projects and ask them for their progress on their own projects. The team lead will also check in routinely to see where people are at on their projects, but this step of mutual accountability is good for keeping people on track as well as being a tool to help build camaraderie and being able to collaborate with team members.
